Skin Care pt 1: TLC for Your Face
Many of us were once naive to the media's propaganda regarding skin care. It wasn’t too long ago that common knowledge said that the skin cannot absorb anything and therefore skin care products were a waste of money. The science community even went as far to say that nothing used on the face will have any lasting effects.
Now, present day science, just about 50 years later, realizes that the skin is a permeable organ. That is, skin regulates body temperature and moisture content. In fact, its permeability, that is, its ability to both absorb and release substances, is now a well-known fact. Many people use this fact to their advantage when they apply dermal patches such as hormonal birth control and quit-smoking patches.
Still, products abound for the skin on every retail shelf, promising beauty and luxury and that the minute amounts of botanicals found in their products will make a difference with your skin. The problem is, they also contain so many carcinogenic chemicals and highly reactive substances that most manufacturers are required by law to provide safe disposal instructions.
