With summer fun usually comes the increase of superficial skin injuries. Cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and bug bites can all easily become infected without the proper treatment. Sadly, many wounds become infected and those infections can lead to illnesses and scarring.
Many people believe simple hand sanitizers will kill most bacteria. The truth is, the more hand sanitizer is used, the more the resident bacteria, which coats our skin, becomes immune to it.
Therefore, it is of vital importance to know how to treat wounds. Anything deeper than the skin should be treated by a trained medical professional. However, treating those wounds prior to receiving medical attention can positively affect healing time, scarring, and reduce risk of infections, both in the wounds and in the blood.
Properly treating wounds can save hospital time and possibly reduce the need to use hospital facilities. While hospitals are great places for receiving stitches and resetting bones, they harbor many viruses and bacteria, no matter how clean the facilities are.
